Key points
  • Sánchez and Ustero beat top seeds Triay and Brea 6-1 6-4 in Saturday's first semi-final.
  • It is their third consecutive win over the world No 1s, after the semi-finals in Rotterdam and Düsseldorf.
  • The 2026 head-to-head is now level at 6–6.
  • They meet Fernández/Calvo or Josemaría/González in Sunday's final, seeking a fifth title of the season.

Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero are into the final of the Milano P1. The third seeds beat world No 1s Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea 6-1 6-4 in Saturday's opening semi-final at the Allianz Cloud — their third win over the top seeds in three tournaments.

A one-sided first set

The Spanish pair took control immediately, winning the first set 6-1, as the tournament's official account noted mid-match. Triay and Brea, who had needed a second-set tie-break to get past Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio in the quarter-finals, made a better fight of the second set, but Sánchez and Ustero held on to close it out 6-4, according to the official results.

Diari de Tarragona credited Sánchez's experience and reading of the game, and Ustero's ability to make the difference in the decisive moments, for the win.

Their road to the final

Sánchez and Ustero have not dropped a set in Milan. In the quarter-finals they beat eighth seeds Alejandra Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro 6-4 6-3, a match the International Padel Federation framed as the city's farewell to Salazar, one of the most decorated players in the sport's history. Triay and Brea, for their part, arrived having beaten Velasco and Eugenio 6-2 7-6(4).

The No 1s' new problem

The numbers explain why this result matters. According to our head-to-head data, the two pairs had met 11 times in 2026 before Milan, with Triay and Brea leading 6–5. Sánchez and Ustero have now won the last three: 6-2 6-3 in the Rotterdam semi-finals, 7-5 3-6 7-5 in Düsseldorf a week later, and 6-1 6-4 today. The season series is level at 6–6.

It is a striking turnaround for the third seeds, who won their first Major together in Paris in September and are fighting to finish the season as the main challengers to the world No 1s — see our women's season review.

Sunday's final

Sánchez and Ustero will play for what Diari de Tarragona describes as a fifth title of the season. Their opponents will be the winners of Saturday's second semi-final between fourth seeds Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo — who beat them in last week's final in Düsseldorf — and second seeds Paula Josemaría and Bea González.
