The Milano P1 reaches its business end on Friday with a quarter-final line-up shaped by two big upsets. Javi Garrido and Juani De Pascual knocked out fifth seeds Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno 6-2 6-3 in the round of 16, while in the women's draw top seeds Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea were the first pair into the semi-finals.
The upset: Garrido and De Pascual stun Navarro and Di Nenno
Seeded 16th, Garrido and De Pascual were not expected to trouble one of the tour's most experienced pairs. Instead they won in straight sets, 6-2 6-3 — a result the International Padel Federation called a major upset. Their reward is a meeting with third seeds Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger, who beat Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi 6-4 6-2.
It was not the only surprise of the round. Tino Libaak and Gonza Alfonso, seeded 15th, beat eighth seeds Mike Yanguas and Pablo Lijó 6-1 7-6 and now face the defending champions, second seeds Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto. Alfonso's form is all the more notable given that, as Padel Magazine reported, Argentina picked him ahead of Juan Tello for the 2026 World Cup — and Tello, with Maxi Arce, lost his opening match in Milan.
Men's quarter-finals (Friday 16 October)
- Agustín Tapia / Arturo Coello [1] vs Fran Guerrero / Javi Leal [6]
- Momo González / Lucas Campagnolo [7] vs Franco Stupaczuk / Jon Sanz [4]
- Leo Augsburger / Juan Lebrón [3] vs Javi Garrido / Juani De Pascual [16]
- Gonza Alfonso / Tino Libaak [15] vs Ale Galán / Fede Chingotto [2]
The world No 1s Tapia and Coello have been the most dominant pair of the week so far, dropping only ten games in two matches (6-3 6-3, then 6-2 6-2 against José Jiménez and Álex Arroyo). Stupaczuk and Sanz, who have reached the last two finals on the tour and beat Galán and Chingotto along the way, have also yet to drop a set.
Women: Triay and Brea lead the way
In the women's draw, seven of the eight seeded pairs reached the quarter-finals, the FIP noted. The exception was the seventh-seeded Marina Guinart and Ale Alonso, beaten in their opening match by Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio. That run ended on Friday morning: Triay and Brea won 6-2 7-6(4), taking the second set on a tie-break, to book their place in Saturday's semi-finals.
Still to come: Ale Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro [8] against Andrea Ustero and Ari Sánchez [3], Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo [4] against Sofía Araújo and Marta Ortega [5], and Claudia Jensen and Tamara Icardo [6] against second seeds Paula Josemaría and Bea González.
Schedule and how to follow
