Week one: Shelton completes a surface set

Ben Shelton opened the season by beating fellow American Taylor Fritz, the defending champion, 6-4 2-6 6-4 in the Stuttgart final on 14 June. It was his first grass-court title and, after Dallas on hard courts and Munich on clay, made him the first American since Sam Querrey in 2010 to win titles on all three surfaces in one season, according to the ATP Tour.

The same day in 's-Hertogenbosch, world No 76 Kamil Majchrzak won his first tour-level title by beating second seed Alex de Minaur 6-3 2-6 7-6(5). The Pole beat three top-10 players in his last three matches, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daniil Medvedev and De Minaur, and entered the top 50 for the first time.

At the WTA 500 event at Queen's Club, Donna Vekic beat Emma Raducanu 6-0 7-6(6) on 14 June. The Croatian had entered the main draw as a lucky loser, and the WTA noted she was the first lucky loser to win a title at 500 level or above. Raducanu saved several championship points in the second set before Vekic closed it out.

Halle and Queen's: two first 500 titles

The men's 500 events both finished on 21 June. In Halle, the unseeded Tiafoe beat Fritz 6-4 6-4, losing only seven points on serve, to become the first American to win the German event. He had beaten Flavio Cobolli and Auger-Aliassime earlier in the week and climbed back to No 19. "This is big," he said, as quoted by the ATP Tour.

At Queen's, seventh seed Cerundolo came from a set down to beat 2024 champion Tommy Paul 6-7 6-4 6-3. The Lawn Tennis Association said the match lasted over three hours, the longest final in the tournament's history, and that Cerundolo became the first Argentine to win the title. It was also his first ATP 500 crown.

In Berlin, Noskova beat Jessica Pegula 6-4 4-6 6-3 in a final pushed back about five and a half hours by a storm. The Czech's second career title took her into the top 10 for the first time. "I definitely was not expecting this," she told the WTA website.

The final week before Wimbledon

Muchova won her first grass-court title in Bad Homburg on 27 June when Naomi Osaka retired with a foot injury, trailing 6-1 1-0. Osaka had taken a medical timeout in the first set and apologised to the crowd afterwards.

In Eastbourne the same day, Madison Keys beat Tatjana Maria 7-5 6-4 for her third title at the event, after 2014 and 2023. The WTA said that put her alongside Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, and it was her first trophy since the 2025 Australian Open.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina finally won a tour-level title at the sixth attempt, beating Ethan Quinn 7-6(4) 6-3 in Mallorca on 27 June. The men's final in Eastbourne was halted by rain on Saturday and finished on 28 June, when Zizou Bergs recovered to beat Ugo Humbert 3-6 6-1 6-4. Bergs, who had arrived on a six-match losing streak, became the first Belgian man to win an ATP title on grass.

What it meant for Wimbledon

The grass results proved a fair guide for the women. Noskova and Muchova, the Berlin and Bad Homburg champions, met in the Wimbledon final, which Noskova won for her first major. On the men's side, none of the June winners went on to lift the trophy: Jannik Sinner retained his title against Alexander Zverev, with Carlos Alcaraz absent through a wrist injury.

For Tiafoe, Cerundolo and Majchrzak, the swing still brought career highlights, and Shelton's Stuttgart win completed one of the most varied title runs by an American in years.
