Muchova and Noskova close out the final

The eight-team Finals ran from 22 to 27 September, with every tie decided over two singles and, if needed, a doubles. In the final, Muchova set the tone against Anhelina Kalinina, breaking twice in the first set and on her way to a 6-2 6-3 win, according to the WTA.

Noskova, who beat Muchova in the Wimbledon final in July, then took on Elina Svitolina. The 21-year-old recovered from 0-40 to break in the first set and reeled off its last five games. The second set had no break points at all and went to a tie-break, where Noskova earned three championship points and converted the third to win 6-3 7-6(5). The doubles was not needed.

The title was a first at the Finals for captain Barbora Strycova, who won six titles as a player for the Czech team between 2011 and 2018. The WTA noted that Czechia have now won 12 of their 13 finals in the competition.

Ukraine's historic run

Ukraine came to Shenzhen having reached the semi-finals in 2025 and went one better. They beat Belgium 2-1 in the quarter-finals, with Kalinina winning both her singles and the deciding doubles.

In the semi-finals on 26 September they met Italy, the two-time defending champions who had beaten them at the same stage a year earlier. Kalinina beat 18-year-old Tyra Grant 6-3 6-4, and Svitolina sealed a place in the final by beating Jasmine Paolini 6-2 6-2. "It's a really special moment for us, for Ukraine, going through difficult times back home," Svitolina said, as reported by Dawn. Czechia, who had knocked out Great Britain in the quarter-finals, reached the final by beating Spain in the other semi-final.

Kartal's comeback for Great Britain

Great Britain met Czechia in the quarter-finals on 22 September. Anne Keothavong's team included Sonay Kartal, who had not played since retiring with a back injury against Elena Rybakina at Indian Wells in March. The LTA confirmed she had been out for six months with a stress fracture in her lower back. "Mentally, physically, I'm in a very good place," she told the LTA before the event.

Kartal took Marie Bouzkova the distance, winning the second set after losing a first-set tie-break, but Bouzkova took the decider to win 7-6(2) 4-6 6-4. Noskova then beat Katie Boulter 6-2 7-6(3) to send the Czechs through. Kartal's form has since carried into the Asian swing, where she went on to reach the semi-finals of the Wuhan Open.

What it means

The final underlined how strong Czech women's tennis is at the top: the two players who contested the Wimbledon final in July won every singles rubber they played in the final week. For Ukraine, a first final, achieved without dropping a tie until Sunday, was the country's best result in the competition. Italy's two-year reign ended in the semi-finals, which means the trophy changes hands heading into the 2027 edition.
