Carlos Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur 6-1 6-4 to win the Erste Bank Open in Vienna on Sunday, 1 November, while Valentin Vacherot came back from a set down to beat Jiri Lehecka 2-6 6-3 6-3 in the final of the Swiss Indoors Basel.
Alcaraz too good for De Minaur
De Minaur arrived unbeaten in ten indoor matches this season, including his Rotterdam title, and had knocked out top seed Alexander Zverev on Saturday. Alcaraz gave him little chance. De Minaur took five of the seven games of the first set to deuce, but Alcaraz broke three times to lead 6-1, the ATP reported. The Australian saved break points in three of his service games in the second set, then lost his serve at 4-5, when Alcaraz won an all-court rally on his first championship point.
"He's really fast, so you have to earn every point. You might hit a winner against everybody, except him," Alcaraz said. "I tried to be aggressive and show him that if he wants to win, he has to play better, more aggressive, more solid, and be smarter than me." He won 29 of his 36 first-serve points and now leads De Minaur 7-0 in their head-to-head.
A perfect ATP 500 season
It is Alcaraz's fourth title of 2026, and he did not drop a set in five matches. After winning Doha and Tokyo earlier in the year, he is 16-0 at ATP 500 events this season and has won 26 matches in a row at that level, a run that goes back to his defeat by Holger Rune in the Barcelona final in April 2025, BBC Sport noted. Only Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have won more ATP 500 titles, according to the ATP. Alcaraz, 38-5 this season and already qualified for Turin, plays Lehecka or Alex Michelsen in his first match at the Paris Masters.
For De Minaur, who moved into ninth place in the Race to Turin with his semi-final win, the runner-up points still help his bid for a third straight ATP Finals appearance, with Paris the last chance for the players chasing the final places.
Vacherot wins Basel
In Basel, eighth seed Lehecka took the first set 6-2, but Vacherot won the next two 6-3 6-3 to take the title. The 27-year-old from Monaco, who had become the first Monegasque to reach the Basel final by beating Taylor Fritz on Saturday, is the first from his country to win the tournament. It is his first final and first title of 2026, a year after his surprise run to the Shanghai Masters title, Tennis Majors recalled. On his way to the trophy he also beat Rafael Jodar and Holger Rune.
Lehecka, who began his week by ending Stan Wawrinka's career and saved a match point against Jan-Lennard Struff in the semi-finals, now faces Michelsen in Paris, with Alcaraz waiting in the second round. Results from every event are on our tennis results page.
