Daria Kasatkina identifies improvements she has made after reaching RG quarterfinal

Russian tennis star Daria Kasatkina, 25, says her decision-making has improved and that is one of the reasons behind her strong French Open run.

20th-seeded Kasatkina was all about business on Monday as she saw off Italy’s Camila Giorgi 6-2 6-2 to progress into her third career Grand Slam quarterfinal.

In 2018, Kasatkina reached the quarterfinals at the French Open and Wimbledon.

Four years later, Kasatkina has been through to her third Grand Slam quarterfinal.

Kasatkina is now more experienced and she will be definitely hoping to reach her maiden Grand Slam semifinal when she takes on Veronika Kudermetova on Wednesday.

“If we talk about me changing in the past six years, honestly I don’t remember myself six years ago. But watching the matches from the past I can see that I’m making a bit better decisions in the important moments. Physically, I think I become better, I’m improving, I’m working a lot. So I think from my point of view this is the main changes,” Kasatkina said, per the WTA website.

Kasatkina dominated Giorgi

Kasatkina made a fast start to the match, taking an early 2-0 lead.

After breaking Giorgi in the first set, Kasatkina had a chance to open a double break led but she missed out on a break point in the third game.

In the fourth game, Giorgi had two break points but Kasatkina saved those break point chances to open a 3-1 lead.

Giorgi had another break point chance in the sixth game but failed to realize as Kasatkina took a 4-2 lead.

Giorgi paid the price for not realizing her break point chances as Kasatkina earned her second break in the seventh game and served out for the first set in the following game.

After winning the first set, Kasatkina had a break point in the opening game of the second set but failed to convert.

Kasatkina didn’t get a break in the opening game but then won the following five games to open a 5-1 lead in the second set.

In the eighth game, Kasatkina realized her first match point to complete a straight-set win.
