Emma Raducanu recalls her first trip to Wimbledon

British tennis star Emma Raducanu, 19, still perfectly remembers her first trip to Wimbledon as she revealed she literally asked every player she met for an autograph.

Raducanu competed at Wimbledon during her junior days, while she made her senior debut at Wimbledon last year.

Last year, the Wimbledon organizers handed Raducanu a wildcard into The Championships.

In her Wimbledon debut, Raducanu impressed as she reached the round-of-16, before an injury forced her to retire versus Ajla Tomljanovic.

“I remember my first trip to Wimbledon with my coach and another player who was my age. We were asking everyone for their autographs – and I mean everyone! I’ve still got photographs from that day. To be able to actually say that I’ve played on those courts, especially Court One and hopefully Centre Court this year, is pretty special,” Raducanu told during her conversation with Gemma Chan for ELLE UK.

Raducanu: I’m at my best when I’m happy

After Raducanu reached the Wimbledon last-16, many predicted she could become a Grand Slam champion in the future.

However, no one was ready to see Raducanu become a Grand Slam champion two months later at the US Open.

At Flushing Meadows, Raducanu became the first qualifier in tennis history to win a Grand Slam.

“When I’m genuinely smiling and happy, that’s when my best results have come. In New York, I was loving my walk-through Times Square to get frozen yoghurt every night. It was such a small thing, but I feel like it definitely played a part in my happiness, and that translated to my performance on the court,” Raducanu said.

Raducanu came to Wimbledon as a wildcard last year, while this year she will arrive as a big star.

Raducanu is now the face of British tennis and there is going to be lots of attention on her at Wimbledon.
