World No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas easily handled Mikael Ymer but after the match showed his class and congratulated the Swede on reaching the third round at Roland Garros.Ā
On Saturday, fourth-seeded Tsitsipas ousted Ymer 6-2 6-2 6-1 to progress into the French Open last-16.
Ymer led 2-1 after the opening three games, before Tsitsipas claimed back-to-back breaks and won five games in a row to take the opener.
The exactly same scenario was seen in the second set as Ymer led 2-1, before Tsitsipas won five consecutive games to open a two-set lead.Ā
In the third set, Tsitsipas broke Ymer three times and completed a straight-set win.Ā
ā[There were] a lot of good rallies from my side,” Tsitsipas said in his on-court interview, per the ATP website. “I have a long history with Mikael, playing in juniors, and weāve played each other a lot. I would like to congratulate him on his great effort, he had a good run to the third round once more. It was a good game from my side I think, I played really well and topped it off with some really good, patient tennis.ā

Tsitsipas struggled in his first two matches but was able to win.Ā
Tsitsipas recovered from two sets down to beat Lorenzo Musetti in the first round, before defeating qualifier Zdenek Kolar in four sets in the second round.Ā
āI played a bit later in the last two matches,” said Tsitsipas. “There wasnāt much sun, the conditions seemed a bit drier and colder. I saw it differently today compared to the other two days for sure. I felt much more free with my ball, was able to create a little bit more and find angles, and really push a lot with my ball. It helped a lot mentally, being aware of the next shot, having that confidence.ā
Tsitsipas plays next either Holger Rune or Hugo Gaston.
