Former seven-time Grand Slam champion Mats Wilander says he is convinced Emma Raducanu will reach the very top of the women’s game as he loves her attitude and how she behaves on and off the court.
Raducanu, 19, captured her maiden Grand Slam title in a stunning style as she became the first qualifier in tennis historx to win a Grand Slam.
Eight months have passed since Raducanu’s stunning US Open victory and she hasn’t had any triumphs since.
Raducanu has faced lots of criticism throughout the 2022 season but Wilander thinks she will be just fine.
“People are sort of doubting her a little bit, she hasn’t been around that long, but I have to say every time I see her play, I am convinced she is going to get to the top of the women’s game at some point because her attitude is absolutely fantastic,” Wilander told Eurosport, via Tennishead. “She does everything well on court, she moves well and is solid off both sides. The most important part: she has a great attitude through all these tough times, when everybody is doubting her and she’s not winning many matches. She’s so positive and I love watching her play because of her attitude.”
Raducanu exits the French Open
Raducanu is playing her first full season on the WTA Tour and this week she made her French Open debut.
In the first round, Raducanu recovered from a set down to beat Czech qualifier Linda Noskova in the first round.
After surviving a tricky opener, Raducanu made a good start to her second round meeting versus Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Raducanu won the opening set versus Sannovich before she suffered a stunning collapse and lost in three sets.
Sasnovich, who beat Raducanu in Indian Wells last year, claimed a 3-6 6-1 6-1 victory over the Briton at the French Open.
Raducanu’s first clay season is over and now her focus turns onto the upcoming grass season.
