Jelena Ostapenko on her perfect record versus Iga Swiatek: I know how to play her

World No. 13 Jelena Ostapenko called Iga Swiatek “a great player” but added she knows how to play the Pole.

Swiatek, 20, has won her last 29 matches as she hasn’t had a loss since mid-February.

Swiatek hasn’t had a loss since losing to Ostapenko in the Dubai round-of-16.

Ostapenko has a great head-to-head versus Swiatek as she has won each of their three meetings.

On Tuesday, Ostapenko made a winning start at the French Open as she saw off Lucia Bronzetti.

After the match, Ostapenko was asked to reveal some of her secrets about playing Swiatek.

“She’s a great player and she’s playing really well now. When I played against her, I feel like I’m going really focused into that match. I really know what to do and how to play against her. I don’t know what else to say (smiling),” Ostapenko said, per Luca Fiorino.

Ostapenko could skip Wimbledon

Last week, the WTA sanctioned Wimbledon by removing ranking points from this year’s tournament.

There is a growing fear that top players might decide to skip Wimbledon and Ostapenko has confirmed there is a chance she decides to skip The Championships.

“But, I mean, if there are no points, I’m not really sure what I’m going to do. I still want to focus on this tournament, and after, I want to see. Because I feel like it’s a little bit unfair to play the tournament when there are no points and you kind of, you can win the tournament and then you don’t move one spot up in the ranking. So it’s a little bit strange,” Ostapenko explained.

“But of course it’s a very prestigious tournament, so still, I mean, of course I love Wimbledon and I want to play it. Hopefully, I don’t know, something will change within the next few weeks.”
