Tennis fans, rejoice! Former Grand Slam champion and Delray Beach Open (DBO) titleholder Juan Martin del Potro is making his long-awaited return to the tournament after six years. The Argentine star will compete in the Legends event during Opening Weekend, February 7-9, alongside an incredible lineup of tennis icons.
Del Potro will face off against the legendary Bob and Mike Bryan, the most successful doubles team in history with 16 Grand Slam titles and six DBO trophies. Other stars joining the Legends roster include French Open champs Luke and Murphy Jensen, as well as Delray singles champions Sam Querrey, Jack Sock, Tommy Haas, and Xavier Malisse.
The ATP tournament itself runs from February 10-16, headlined by two-time defending champion and world No. 4 Taylor Fritz. Other notable players include last year’s runner-up Tommy Paul (world No. 11), Brandon Nakashima (No. 35), Matteo Arnaldi (No. 39), and former champions Reilly Opelka and Kei Nishikori.
Del Potro shared his excitement, saying:
“I am very excited to go back to Delray Beach, a very special place for me in my career. I have great memories, especially when I won the title in 2011. Looking forward to saying hi to the fans and all the organization.”
The towering 6-foot-6 Argentine first captured global attention in 2009, defeating Roger Federer to claim the US Open title at just 20 years old, after beating Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. Delray Beach also holds a special place in his heart, as it marked the beginning of his comeback in 2011 after a challenging wrist injury.
