Kyle Edmund undergoes second knee surgery, reveals when he aims to return

Former world No. 14 Kyle Edmund is aiming to return around the US Open, per the BBC.

Edmund, 27, hasn’t played in nearly two years as his last appearance came in 2020 October. 

Since then, Edmund has had two knee surgeries and he is hoping to return during the North American hard court swing. 

Edmund underwent a surgery on his left knee in 2021 March.

Edmund recently retutned to the practice court and he was hoping to compete at Wimbledon. 

Then last week, Edmund felt discomfort in his knee on the practice court and underwent a second knee surgery. 

Edmund: Tough to be missing Wimbledon 

Edmund has lost two years of his career and not being able to compete at The All England Club is a tough pill to swallow for the former British No. 1.

“It’s not so much watching other people, it’s more knowing the feeling of being involved this time of year. It’s a real buzz,” Edmund said. 

“Playing on the grass as a Brit is always one of the highest points of the year. It’s tough to be missing that but it’s not a shock because I knew once I had my op that would be the case.

“I’ve just tried to accept that and say, ‘Get your body right and play again’. That’s been my focus and I feel like I’ve been pretty good in terms of mindset and staying positive. I’m doing everything I can to be back on court.”

When the 2020 season resumed following the pandemic suspension, Edmund was struggling with his game and results as a knee injury was giving him too much trouble. 

Edmund beat Alexander Bublik in the US Open first round, before losing the next five matches. 

After finishing the year on a five-match losing streak, Edmund decided to undergo a knee surgery.
