Today, Alexander Zverev served up a storm, firing 16 aces to outlast Arthur Fils 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and reach his 31st ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinal. Known for his powerhouse serve, the 6’6″ German is currently second on the ATP leaderboard for aces, just behind Hubert Hurkacz, and ranks third in service games held in 2024, trailing only Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini.
🎾 Fils, a rising 20-year-old, pinpointed three reasons Zverev’s serve is so tough to crack: height, weight, and sheer force. According to Fils, Zverev’s towering height creates a unique, hard-to-read trajectory, while the weight of his serve adds another layer of challenge for opponents trying to return it.
Fils explained, “He’s very tall, so it comes from very high… even if you track it, controlling it is tough. Indoors, it’s even more difficult.”
