Arthur Fils arrives at the Rolex Paris Masters looking to cap off his breakout season by securing the title of France’s top-ranked player. The 20-year-old rising star is also cheering on his close friend and frequent doubles partner, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, who just clinched his first ATP 500 title in Basel.
Standing tall at 6ā8ā, the powerhouse Mpetshi Perricard delivered an impressive 22 aces in his 6-4, 7-6(4) victory over Ben Shelton. Having trained with Mpetshi Perricard since their teenage years, Fils believes his friend has the talent and drive to reach the top tier of tennis.
Reflecting on Mpetshi Perricard’s success in Basel, where he didnāt lose his serve throughout the tournament, Fils praised his friend’s fierce serve and agility: “If he doesn’t miss any serves, he’s nearly impossible to break. He’s one of the best servers, solid at the baseline, and he moves incredibly well on the court,” Fils noted at the Paris Masters presser. “I thinkāand I hopeāthat heāll join the best of the best.”
