Iga Swiatek qualified for the 3rd round of the Italian Open 2022, beating Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse in straight sets for 6-3 6-0. Now Victoria Azarenka will be waiting for Pole world no.1.
Iga Swiatek, great favorite for the final victory both in Rome and at the Roland Garros, needs a first set in which she has to take measures, also giving something to her opponent. In the second set, however, Swiatek showed her true tennis, leaving her opponent without a chance. World no.1 played a good level match. She had skipped Madrid just to focus on Rome and the Roland Garros.
In the other matches, Bianca Andreescu struggled a little to beat Nuria Parrizas-Diaz. The 21 year-old Canadian won 6-3 7-6 (4). In the next round she awaits Petra Martić, who beat Anett Kontaveit. Ons Jabeur eliminated Ajla Tomljanović 7-5 6-2 final and will now face Yulia Putinseva.
