Jannik Sinner became first Italian to grab new amazing milestone

Jannik Sinner has reached the semifinals for the first time at the US Open, reaching a milestone that no Italian tennis player had achieved in the Open era in Italy. In the most anticipated quarterfinal at Flushing Meadows, the young Italian has Daniil Medvedev with the result of 6-2 1-6 6-1 6-4.

Jannik, thanks to this goal, has reached an important milestone: he is in fact the first Italian tennis player to reach at least a semifinal in all 4 Slams. First Wimbledon 2023, then the Australian Open, Roland Garros and finally the US Open 2024.

Jannik, moreover, is currently the fourth active tennis player to have reached this milestone. Along with him, of course, the two legends Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, who have won 24 and 22 Slams respectively, then Marin Cilic, champion at Flushing Meadows in 2014. Impressive numbers that certify once again – if there was still any need – his strength, the ability to adapt to any surface, but above all the mentality of the greatest.

Interviewed by former tennis player Brad Gilbert, Sinner analyzed the match with Medvedve, explaining: “The match was very hard-fought, it was a physical challenge as we expected. We expected a match of this type, I am very satisfied, there was a great atmosphere and I thank the crowd for their support.”

Gilbert pointed out to him how there were many runs to the net especially in the third set which was very important.

“We prepared to play an aggressive game with my team, we always work to try to improve on this aspect and try to take away more and more time from the opponent. I was happy on this aspect today with the performance of my game. We’ll see each other again in a couple of days and I can’t wait to play the semifinal,” added Jannik.
