Daniil Medvedev snubs Jannik Sinner: “He didn’t play well, my match was horrible”

Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev are giving life to an intense rivalry, which is spreading especially in the Slams: the last stage was the victory of the young Italian in the quarterfinals of the US Open. Jannik took revenge after the defeat suffered at Wimbledon, qualifying for the semifinals of the New York Major.

It was a match different from their other challenges – certainly shorter – and which highlighted the too many errors of the Russian tennis player, almost 60, with a performance perhaps slightly below expectations. Especially for someone who won this tournament and was considered among the main favorites, on the eve.

At the press conference, analyzing the match, the Russian emphasized how his opponent did not play well and that the defeat came due to the many errors made by Medvedev himself

“It’s a pretty tough defeat, I’m not happy with how I played, there were good and bad moments. It’s a difficult feeling when you come out of a match like that, it’s strange to see how I managed to adapt in the second set and then again in difficulty, I was really tense. When something was missing I couldn’t correct it because I didn’t know what was missing.

At the end of the games everything was very complicated and I have to say that I don’t feel good, I’m not happy at all with this result but that’s tennis. I lost and so I’m going home. I made a lot of mistakes today. These are things that happen in tennis and we don’t know why. Jannik is playing well and we know his type of ball, but I don’t have an answer as to what happened.

The first set was horrible, even more than the third, in the second set things seemed to be going better then he solved his problems and things went well for him. For me it wasn’t my best day but he didn’t play well either, he lacked something but he won,” the Russian champion analyzed with the media present in the press room.
