Alexander Zverev opens on how he feels about Carlos Alcaraz ahead of Madrid final

World No. 3 Alexander Zverev says he is not surprised by Carlos Alcaraz’s results in 2022 as he believes the sky is the limit for the 19-year-old.Ā

On Sunday, Zverev will be aiming to win his third Madrid title when he takes on home favorite Alcaraz in the final.Ā

Zverev, who won Madrid titles in 2019 and 2021, is set to go head-to-head versus Alcaraz for the first time in his career.Ā

Alcaraz is coming off back-to-back wins over Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.Ā

Meanwhile, Zverev defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime and Stefanos Tsitsipas in his last two matches to progress into the Madrid final.Ā

“Nothing that surprises me, because I know how good he is. I said last year in Acapulco that by 2023 he’s going to be Top 10. He beat me by a year. There’s nothing more to say. He’s an incredible player. He’s going to be incredible. At 19 years old now, he looks like a grown man. To be honest, there’s no limit for him,” Zverev said of facing Allcaraz, per the ATP Tour website.Ā

Neither of the two had a perfect semifinal.Ā

Zverev finished his semifinal match at around 1am Sunday morning, while Alcaraz needed three hours and 35 minutes of play to beat Djokovic.Ā

“After today’s match, of course with my team, with my family, we are going to have a great time to enjoy the moment. But I think that tomorrow I’m going to play a final of a really big tournament, and tonight I’m going to be very focussed to be able to recover and to [play] as best as possible for tomorrow’s match,” Alcaraz said.Ā

Zverev is hoping to win his first title of the year, while Alcaraz is aiming to continue his strong year and win his fourth title in 2022.Ā
