Former world No. 3 Dominic Thiem remains in positive spirits even though he remains winless since returning.
On Monday, Thiem suffered his fourth defeat since returning as he was beaten by Andy Murray in the Madrid first round.
Murray, a former world No. 1, routed Thiem 6-3 6-4 to progress into the Madrid second round.
It has been a month since Thiem made his long-awaited comeback but he remains winless.
Clay is Thiem’s favorite surface but it has been a struggle for him since returning as he looks far away from his old form.
However, Thiem remains committed to hard work as he is confident it will eventually pay off and he will once again be a Grand Slam contender.
Thiem: I know what I need to address
“I had a few very successful and especially instructive days in Madrid. The training, the atmosphere and the people were amazing,” Thiem wrote on Twitter.
“Of course I wanted to win this match, but I still lack the consistency that I can get back with a lot of work!
“My team and I know exactly what needs improvement and we will work on it every day.
“I will continue to work and train to achieve my goals. I am and remain positive.
“I approach every practice and every game so that I can always learn from my mistakes, so that I can go one step further every day than yesterday.
“I am overjoyed to be able to stand on the court every day without pain and worries and to be able to do what I love.
“I want to thank everyone who helps me improve every day and I want to thank you for all these inspiring messages and comments!
“I appreciate every single one of you!”
Thiem will return to action next week in Rome.
