Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray says she feels no sympathy toward Boris Becker as he suggested the German tennis legend got what he deserved.
Last week, former world No. 1 Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in jail.
Becker was found guilty of hiding millions worth of assets related to his 2017 bankruptcy case.
Murray, a former world No. 1, suggested that whoever breaks the law deserves to be punished accordingly.
“He broke the law, and if you do that, I don’t think you should get special treatment because of who you are or what you’ve achieved” Murray said, as quoted on Yahoo Sport Australia.
“I feel sorry that he’s in that situation, but I also feel sorry for the people that he’s affected with his decisions.”
Murray on the Wimbledon decision
Murray couldn’t give a direct answer on the Wimbledon decision as he stated that he is against player getting banned but also added that he against players being put in potentially dangerous situation.
Two weeks ago, the Wimbledon organizers banned Russian and Belarusian players from competing at The Championships.
One of the options was to allow Russian and Belarusian players to compete after they write a declaration condemning Russian president Vladimir Putin and his regime.
The Wimbledon organizers figured out that was a dangerous route so they decided against going that way.
“I’m not supportive of players getting banned,” Murray said.
“My understanding of the guidance was that Russians and Belarusians can play if they sign a declaration that they’re against the war and against the Russian regime.
“I’m not sure how comfortable I would feel if something happened to one of the players or their families (as a result).”
Meanwhle, Murray is hoping to make a strong Wimbledon result this year.
Recently, Murray brought back Ivan Lendl to his team.
Lendl guided Murray to two Wimbledon titles in the past.
