Billie Jean King shares strong words about Serena, Venus Williams

Tennis legend and WTA founder Billie Jean King recalled meeting Serena and Venus Williams on the 34th anniversary of the first time she met the greatest sister duo in tennis history.

In 1988, King met the Williams sisters, that would later go on to become all-time greats.

King said she was impressed by the Williams sisters the first time she met them.

34 years later, King says the Williams sisters remain as impressive as ever.

“34 years ago today, on April 30, 1988, I had the honor of meeting @Venuseswilliams & @serenawilliams at a Domino’s Pizza @WorldTeamTennis clinic in Long Beach. They were as impressive then as they are now. Photo: Carol Newsom, taken at our second meeting, 1992, with Rosie Casals,” King tweeted.

Serena Williams could play Wimbledon

The Williams sisters have no appearances in 2022.

Serena Williams hasn’t played since last year’s Wimbledon, when he was forced to retire her first round match due to a hamstring issue.

On the other side, Venus Williams hasn’t played since late August.

Venus Williams was awarded a wildcard into the Australian Open but she decided to skip the event.

Serena Williams indicated in a recent Instagram video that she plans to return around Wimbledon.

Last month, Serena Williams’ long-time coach Patrick Mouratoglou accepted Simona Halep’s offer to become her new full-time coach.

After Mouratoglou announced his partnership with Halep, he revealed that he had a conversation with Serena Williams.

According to Mouratoglou, Serena Williams gave him the permission to work with Halep.

Some think that Serena Williams giving Mouratoglou permission to work with Halep means the 23-time Grand Slam champion doesn’t plan on returning to tennis.

Serena Williams played some decent tennis in 2021 before she called it a season.

In the January of 2021, Serena Williams reached the semifinal at a WTA event in Melbourne.

At the Australian Open, Serena Williams made the semifinal before losing to eventual champion Naomi Osaka.
