Carlos Alcaraz opens on newfound fame, parents approach at home

Carlos Alcaraz is quickly establishing himself as one of the best players on the ATP Tour but he insists he doesn’t consider himself to be famous.

Alcaraz, 18, is doing stunning things as he is already a Masters champion and a top-10 player.

Also, Alcaraz is often compared to Rafael Nadal, who is one of the greatest players in tennis history.

ā€œI handle it quite well. I tell everyone I donā€™t consider myself to be famous. When I get recognised, I take it in stride,ā€ Alcaraz said on El Hormiguero, as quoted on the ATP Tour website.

Juan Carlos Ferrero doing a great job with Alcaraz

2003 French Open champion Ferrero took Alcaraz under his wing and the former world No. 1 is all about hard work and discipline.

At first, Ferrero’s approach wasn’t easy for Alcaraz but now he is grateful since it’s paying off.

ā€œThe team is there to tell me about the bad things and although it frustrates me, itā€™s better for me,ā€Alcaraz admitted. ā€œAt first it was tough. I was very difficult. Juan Carlos had a tough time, because I was really disorganised. And I still am, just a bit less! I didnā€™t control my emotions well and I didnā€™t have my head straight.ā€

In the eyes of many, Alcaraz is a tennis star.

At home, Alcaraz is still a boy.

ā€œOf course, my parents look after the money. To buy myself golf clubs, which I love, I donā€™t ask them for permission, but I do for a good car. Iā€™m still fighting against it. My father is tougher and my mother less so, so for going out and things like that I tell my mother,ā€ Alcaraz said. ā€œI donā€™t have to be back at a certain time exactly, but they always say ā€˜Donā€™t be back lateā€™. As hard as I try not to make any noise when I get home, I always wake them up and they catch me.ā€
