Jannik Sinner breaks his limits: “I can still improve”

Italy reached the semi-finals of the Davis Cup 2023, beating the Netherlands thanks to a super performance from Jannik Sinner. The Italians, led by the recent finalistĀ at the 2023 edition of the ATP Finals, has reached the best 4 teams of the historic national tennis competition. Sinner, as mentioned above, was literally the driving force behind this great performance. In the usual post-match press conference, the young number 4 in the world made interesting statements regarding not only the Davis Cup match but, in general, also his season and his improvements.

Super Sinner believe he can still improve!

“It can sometimes happen that he decides twice as much. Luckily we played together, it happened in Australia and in a match at Indian Wells. In general the most important thing today was the attitude, we entered the field with great energy and we didn’t complain about anything, it went well and this helped us a lot. It was difficult on the court, both us and them were under pressure, the match was decisive but overall it was a good performance. The energy of the whole team gave us a hand, it was fundamental. We are all happy to be here and I think it has been a great challenge. Having pressure during the match is a privilege, not many tennis players can afford this. The pressure of the Davis Cup is different because you have a great responsibility and you don’t have many chances available. It’s a privilege to be here, we knew that after the first match it wasn’t easy. In the singles I started like this and like that, but I tried to move forward. It’s great that the last event of the season is a team event, this event brings so much energy. We are a big family and even today we proved it and each of us gives our best,” explained the Italian. Regarding his teammate Sonego, Jannik smiled and declared: “Lorenzo made things very simple for me, obviously I don’t play many doubles and I knew that was tough. The captain chose us and this is a privilege for us. Obviously in doubles the partner you play with is important, we are good friends even off the court and this helps. Doubles is different from singles, you have to react and especially at the net I don’t feel confident yet. However, I think that today was one of my best doubles matches, I hope that this challenge can give me confidence for the future. Growth at the service? We’ve grown technically, it’s part of the process.”
