Meanwhile, Sabalenka is currently preparing for her final tournament of the 2023 season. Last week, Sabalenka played her first tournament since the US Open at a WTA 1000 event in Beijing. At the China Open, Sabalenka made the quarterfinal before Elena Rybakina ousted her in straight sets. Now, Sabalenka’s focus is on preparing as well as she can for the WTA Finals in Cancun that will be taking place between October 29th – November 05.

Sabalenka aims another great WTA Finals run

Last year, Sabalenka made her second WTA Finals appearance. After failing to make it past the group stage in her WTA Finals debut in 2021, Sabalenka made the final at the WTA Finals last year. Unfortunately for Sabalenka, she fell just short of landing her first WTA Finals title after Caroline Garcia beat her 7-6 (4) 6-4 in the final that was held in Fort Worth, Texas. ā€œI just dropped my level for a little bit. On the tiebreak and the first game of the second set. Thatā€™s it. I did my best, [but] she played unbelievable tennis,” Sabalenka said after losing the 2022 WTA Finals final. This year in Cancun, Sabalenka will undoubtedly be looking to end her season with the WTA Finals title and cap off her career-best year in the best possible way. This year, 25-year-old Sabalenka won her first Grand Slam title and also became the world No 1 for the first time in her career. It remains to be seen if Sabalenka can also win her first WTA Finals title this year.
