Nick Kyrgios shares comeback update amid nightmare 2023 season

Nick Kyrgios admits he “misses playing tennis” and highlighted he is working on “returning as soon as possible.” After a career-best season in 2022, Kyrgios’ 2023 season got off on the wrong way when a knee injury sustained in the offseason forced him to miss the Australian Open and also undergo surgery. At the start of the grass season in Stuttgart, Kyrgios played his first tournament of the year. But just after returning from a long injury break, Kyrgios sustained a wrist injury and he hasn’t played since. “I am just trying to be able to get back as soon as possible because I do miss playing and especially being so close to winning [Wimbledon] last year, I know I’m right there,” Kyrgios said on the Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson podcast.

Kyrgios aims a major comeback

After withdrawing from Wimbledon due to a wrist injury, Kyrgios was hoping to at least be able to play at the US Open. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and Kyrgios ended up missing all four Grand Slam tournaments in 2023. When Kyrgios also pulled out of the US Open, his fans expressed major concerns. Kyrgios then took to his Instagram, where he promised his fans to do everything he can to return and repeat his success from 2022. “To my millions of fans out there, I guess we just have to be patient. Trust me, I still have some fire left in the tank, my body just needs time to recover and get back. I’m still as motivated as ever, in the gym, treatment, recovery. Everything off court is doing great. I am eyeing to come back and have a season like my last again,” Kyrgios wrote on his Instagram Story after withdrawing from the US Open. Kyrgios is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 season and try to return at the start of the 2024 season.
