Roger Federer embraces his fans again

He won’t be on the court but there is great anticipation to see him back in the stands. Tennis legend Roger Federer is once again ready to witness the usual challenge between Team Europe and Team World. Last year, after years of European domination, Team World won for the first time and there is anticipation to understand how it will end this time.

Federer will attend the event and in the last few hours he has made interesting statements to the Laver Cup website: “I am very happy and excited to be here. It will be a short but very beautiful competition, three days full of action. Three days where we will see many good matches. I am enthusiastic and curious about doubles, this competition often offers new teams and maybe, for one thing, I would like to see a doubles team made up of Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev.

Then in the rest of the world there are many interesting names, Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe or Taylor Fritz and they can do several doubles like authentic superstars. I like being in this sphere and who knows maybe one day I will be the captain of one of the two teams. There are no plans for now, but I think it could be very cool. For me personally this competition exceeded expectations.

I never thought I’d play in Geneva and obviously I’m nostalgic thinking about the day of my retirement. Seeing people from different countries come together in one team, including me, Rafa and Novak, was wonderful. Then to see Borg and McEnroe commit to this role has been wonderful over the years.”
