Former Italian tennis star Paolo Bertolucci expressed some interesting considerations on Novak Djokovic’s recent triumph at the US Open 2023, which inevitably brought back to light the traditional discussions about the strongest player in the world and how many Slam titles the Serbian could achieve at the end of his career.
The former Italian tennis player spoke during an interview for Gazzetta dello Sport to comment on the Serbian’s victory in the final in New York against Daniil Medvedev.
Bertolucci explained. “Once again we are amazed at yet another feat. At 36 years old he never ceases to surprise and with first-rate tennis and athletic condition he continues to dictate the law on the ATP circuit.”
The former Italian player then added what he can achieve Nole in his career: “It is no longer a crazy utopia to imagine that one can win 30 Slams. Is it a realistic goal, within Nole’s reach? Simply put, if he continues on the path of three Slams a year as happened to him in 2021 and 2023, last year he didn’t play in Australia and at the US Open, he could reach the goal in two years.”

On the future of the 36-year-old player from Belgrade, the Italian commentator for Sky Sport added: “If we keep faith with his words, and if he doesn’t have to deal with unforeseen physical problems that no one wishes for him, Djokovic intends to play for at least another three years.
Therefore, we must certainly take into account the conquest of other Slams. That he could reach 30, however, remains in the field of unlikely hypotheses, but not impossible for a champion of his talent. The charm of a number that up to many years ago it gave shivers just thinking about it.
Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have instead cleared it as an achievable feat. Without one of the other three in their path, each of them could have legitimately aspired to that sum: this is why what they built cannot have heirs.”
