Daniil Medvedev makes fair point after losing US Open final to Novak Djokovic

Daniil Medvedev admitted there were regrets on his side following his US Open final loss to Novak Djokovic but also added there were many guys before him who felt that way after meeting the Serb in a Slam final. Playing in his third US Open final, Medvedev suffered a loss as Djokovic claimed a 6-3 7-6 (5) 6-3 win. For Medvedev, it was his fifth Grand Slam final and also the third in which he faced Djokovic. Medvedev beat Djokovic in the 2021 US Open final but he was also beaten by the Serb in the 2021 Australian Open final and 2023 US Open final, respectively. After beating Medvedev in this year’s US Open final, Djokovic improved his all-time Grand Slam record to 24 titles. Meanwhile, Medvedev now has a 1-4 record in his Grand Slam finals.

Medvedev has ‘regrets’ after losing to Djokovic in the US Open final

“Yeah, was good moment. That’s what happens sometimes. Second set was up and down, I could have won, he breaks me, we kind of think maybe the match is over but I have to fight till the last point. I managed to break back. In my mind I’m, like, let’s go for it, come on. But I didn’t manage to raise my level as in the second set. I think physically I was a little bit tired also, and he kind of maybe sensed this victory, so physically he will manage to step up. In my mind I was thinking I have to continue this physical battle, but actually didn’t manage to in the third set, and that’s why I started to miss a little bit more, a little bit worse decisions, for sure. Yeah, a lot of regrets, but at the same time, 24 other finalists, 23 other finalists? Anyway, many more guys have a lot of regrets playing him in the final of a slam,” Medvedev said after losing the US Open final.
