Caroline Wozniacki ends her 2023 season, reveals next plans

Caroline Wozniacki announced in the Danish part of her US Open press conference that her 2023 season has come to an end and also revealed that her big goal is going to be doing well at the Australian Open, via Nicolai Dvinge.

Wozniacki, 33, was out of pro tennis for two and a half years before making a surprise return last month in Montreal. After competing in back-to-back WTA 1000 tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati, Wozniacki also competed at the US Open as a wildcard. In her first Grand Slam tournament back, Wozniacki made the round-of-16 before Coco Gauff handed her a 6-3 3-6 6-1 loss. Now, Wozniacki’s season is finished and she plans to focus on making a really strong preparation for the 2024 season.

Wozniacki happy with how her comeback has gone so far

After welcoming two kids and being out of tennis for two and a half years, Wozniacki quickly proved that she still has the game and ability to compete at the highest level. Wozniacki went 1-2 in her first two tournaments but had a pretty impressive US Open run. Before going down to world No 6 Gauff in three sets, Wozniacki clinched very notable wins over Petra Kvitova, Jennifer Brady, and Tatiana Prozorova. ā€œI think there’s a lot of things that I can take away with me from playing this Slam, and obviously I beat some great players along the way. I wanted to see where I was tennis-wise, where I was physically and everything else. I think I’ve learned a lot from that,” Wozniacki said. Also, former world No 1 Wozniacki said she is exactly where she wants to be. ā€œI think I’m exactly where I want to be. There [are] still a few things that I want to work on and that I can do better. But in general, I think it’s very positive. Every match I played here, I played a little bit better each time. A lot of positives I can bring with me,” Wozniacki said.
