Jessica Pegula’s outfit for the US Open 2023 will honor US legend Billie Jean King

Jessica Pegula will honor US tennis icon Billie Jean King, at the US Open, with an outfit that will pay homage to the battle between BJK and Bobby Riggs.

Pegula will wear a blue outfit with white inserts and matching shoes, which recalls what King wore in the famous fight against Bobby Riggs in 1973.

Jessica Pegula won the WTA 1000 champion title in Montreal. The American returns to number 3 in the world in a tournament where she clearly defeated Liudmila Samsonova in the final.

Here are some statements from the champion, in the post-final press conference: “I know that physically she wasn’t at her best, but I played and I think I had an excellent match. Indeed, I made few mistakes and I can say I played the game perfect. Jessica made it clear on the court that she would have liked to win another way and in the conference she explained: “My opponent had a crazy schedule, and she too played a few hours before the final. It’s difficult when you’re in this condition, she’s a great player and I’m sure we’ll find her fighting again.”

Then Jessica talked about her results and her great continuity, with this year she returned to number three in the world: “It’s a great feeling to get these results, I’ve been very regular with finals, semifinals and some quarterfinals.

I worked a lot and beating players like Gauff or Iga Swiatek in consecutive matches is not easy. It’s true that I’ve never had many points to defend and therefore I didn’t have a lot of pressure, but I’m fine. Sometimes tennis can be hard on you, we play every week to win and unfortunately you often lose.

We play many matches without winning tournaments but this week makes you realize that it was worth it. Now I can’t wait to leave again and will go to Cincinnati immediately. Here the fast courts and the public helped me and now I want to continue like this.”
