Cori Gauff hilariously tells how Novak Djokovic made stands full in her Cincy match

Cori Gauff joked a Novak Djokovic match being scheduled right after her own match was probably to credit for the packed crowd that came to watch her Cincinnati clash against Linda Noskova. On Thursday night, Gauff defeated Linda Noskova 6-4 6-0 in the Cincinnati round-of-16 on the Centre Court. On Thursday’s order of play, Djokovic and Gael Monfils were scheduled to meet in the final match of the day on the Centre Court. Gauff, ranked at No 7 in the world, joked she was “the opening act.” Also, Gauff said she remains hopeful she will one day be “the main act.”

“It’s even more crowded that my first match yesterday. Probably because Novak Djokovic’s after me, to be honest… and Gael! And Gael too, so. But you know, I am glad that you guys are cheering for me tonight. I feel like, you know, when I played the first night match and there’s like, you know, the big star after me, I feel like I am the opening act. The guy has I don’t know how many Grand Slams. I am at zero right now. So, I am the opening act, but maybe one day I’ll be the main act,” Gauff said.

Meanwhile, Gauff didn’t disappoint in front of her home fans in Cincinnati. In the first set against Noskova, Gauff struggled on her own service but she was delivering in Noskova’s service games – the American lost her service four times but also broke the Czech five times to still win the opener. After winning the first set, Gauff bageled Noskova in the second set to complete a two-set win.
