Gael Monfils reveals what makes him the happiest about wife Elina Svitolina

Gael Monfils admits one of his biggest joys in this life is seeing his wife Elina Svitolina being happy. In the summer of 2021, Monfils and Svitolina tied the knot. Last year, Svitolina announced she and Monfils were expecting their first child. In October, Svitolina and Monfils became parents for the first time. After being out of tennis for 13 months, Svitolina returned to action in April. Svitolina’s comeback has been an impressive one so far as the Ukrainian has already won a WTA 250 title and returned to the top-30. Also, Svitolina reached the Wimbledon semifinal and made the quarterfinal at the French Open.

Monfils on Svitolina: It’s a joy to see my wife happy

“We had each other. It’s great to see her doing so good. So, I think both of us, we try to pull the best out of us. The downside is to see her suffering in the practice, in the fitness room; how much discipline and work she puts in, you know, to come back. It’s just like, for me, another joy to see my wife compete and be happy on the court – that’s the first for a husband — to see your wife happy. She’s happy outside of the court, but enjoying herself on the court, putting the work, the discipline and then have the results, is amazing,” Monfils said on Tennis Channel.

For this year’s North American hard court swing, Monfils and Svitolina decided not to travel with their 10-month-old daughter Skai.

“Just spoke with her before the match. She’s doing good. We had a tough decision to say that she might skip this one with us. But now she’s good, she’s happy. She’s starting to understand a bit better,” Monfils said.

This week, both Monfils and Svitolina were scheduled to compete in Cincinnati. Monfils appeared at the event, while Svitolina unfortunately was forced to skip the event due to a foot injury.
