Stefanos Tsitsipas has had a positive start to the American tour on hard-courts. The native of Athens, after announcing that he has returned to work with Mark Philippoussis and granted a little break to Father Apostolos (he will return on his box for the US Open), won the ATP 250 title in Los Cabos and thus rose to share 10 titles in his career.
A good victory for Tsitsipas, who prevailed in the final against the Australian Alex De Minaur and conceded only one set in the entire Mexican tournament. Thanks to this affirmation, the 24-year-old has detached Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev in the Race standings for the Finals in Turin, consolidating his fourth place for now.
In the world ranking, however, he has again exceeded 5,000 points and will return to number 4 in the world, overtaking the Norwegian Casper Ruud.
Stefanos Tsitsipas shared hopeful words and warns Carlos Alcaraz!
In the interview on the court for the ATP Tour, Stefanos Tsitsipas said: “I feel that we both wanted to take the court and show an important level of our tennis for a great final. I feel it was a good match. Alex showed excellent tennis, I tried to keep up as much as possible. I’m really happy that we managed to entertain the viewers. I think that’s the most striking thing. It was a great race and the crowd, as always, was there and engaged.”
The native of Athens is already projected to the next appointment in Toronto.
“I will take the positive aspects of this week. I’ve had some good challenges here and I think it’s a good start to the American hard court swing. In fact, I am confident for the next tournaments,” he assured warning the competition, especially Carlos Alcaraz.
Then he concluded: “We played very good tennis this week thanks to so many good players who participated in this event. The competition was high and I am happy to take home the trophy.”
