Casper Ruud in Hamburg will go in search of the first overall title in an ATP 500. The goal is to give a further turning point to his career, in which he already boasts some important and important achievements.
The Norwegian tennis player, top seeded in the main draw, made his debut against Argentine Sebastian Baez yesterday, in a competition that boasts several top players and title contenders: among them the Russian Andrey Rublev, who defeated him last week in the final in Bastad, home favorite Alexander Zverev and defending titleholder Lorenzo Musetti.
In an interview granted to ATP website, before the debut match, the 24-year-old said: “I’m sitting here with 10 titles and all 250, I wouldn’t say it bothers me. Obviously I also want to try to win a bigger and important title, it’s something I don’t hide.”
On this wish he added and concluded: “That’s why we are working hard to get to the finals and then take them home. You are remembered more if you manage to win the final acts, not losing them. I hope it’s only a matter of time, I will continue to work hard”.
Casper Ruud’s next tournament
Perhaps a strange performance for Ruud in recent years on the men’s circuit.
Despite having had the opportunity to play three Grand Slam finals in a short time (in 2022 at the Roland Garros and at the US Open, again in Paris in 2023; all defeats against the most popular Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic), the Norwegian won only 250 trophies and never went further.
Even the Norwegian, always in the upper areas of the ATP ranking and in New York even one step away from becoming number one in the world, is looking for the first prestigious title of his career.
Will he be able to hit it at the end of this season? The first opportunity will be this week in Germany, even if it won’t be easy, before thinking about the appointments in Canada and the United States of America.
