Aryna Sabalenka conquered the semifinal of Wimbledon 2023. The Belarusian tennis player won the quarterfinals by beating the American Madison Keys in straight sets, with the result of 6-2, 6-4.
In the press conference, the Australian Open winner revealed her ambitions and feelings, explaining: “Yes, it’s incredible. I’m super happy to be back in the semifinals. I can’t wait for my semifinal match. I want to do a little better than last time here.”
At the All England Club, Sabalenka can aim for the ranking throne and the title: on what she prefers, her answer is not surprising: “To be honest, I want both! But I’m trying to focus on myself because I know that.
if I start thinking about all these things, I will lose concentration on the pitch, on my game. So I’m trying to focus on myself right now and make sure that every time I’m on the court I bring my best tennis. Then later we’ll see if I’m ready to become number 1 in the world or if I’m ready to play in another final.”
Sabalenka will face Ons Jabeur in the semifinals
For Sabalenka, winning Wimbledon is a dream: “When I was 14 or 15, I dreamed of becoming one of the best players in the world, dreaming of lifting these beautiful trophies. I mean, it’s something incredible.
This is something that really motivates me a lot, that I managed to become one of the best. I’m competing at a high level. I will do everything possible to lift this beautiful trophy.”
On the semifinal with Ons Jabeur, an opponent discovered while she was at the press conference, the Belarusian says: “I knew she would do well here because she played incredible tennis on the training court.
I know it’s different in training than in the game. She is a great player. We’ve always had tough battles against each other, very close matches. I’m really looking forward to this great fight. She has really good touch, especially on grass courts.
I feel that mentally she is really strong. She is making history. I think that’s her biggest motivation for her. That’s why she’s doing really well this season, especially here at Wimbledon. So, yeah, I think her complicated her game is really, really hard to deal with.”
