ATP Barcelona 2022: Carlos Alcaraz dives into the pasture after the victory!

Carlos Alcaraz, the new number 9 in the world, won two matches in a few hours in his home tournament in Barcelona. Carlos first won a battle of over three hours against Alex De Minaur, among other things canceling the opponent’s match points in a big way, and then he dominated the final leaving the crumbs to compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta.

At the end of the match and after the interviews Alcaraz celebrated with the traditional dip in the pool, dragging the coach and great friend Juan Carlos Ferrero with him. Yet another title this season, more and more important for the 18-year-old who breaks all records.

The match

The start of the match was all about serve: in the first four games, neither player scored a point on the other’s serve. The turning point comes in the fifth game, with the break point in favor of Alcaraz, who takes advantage of Carrenoā€™s forehand error and moves forward in the partial.

Too many mistakes by the number nineteen of the world, both forehand and backhand, forced into a defensive game, chasing an Alcaraz at very high speed. Thus the 18-year-old Spaniard earns the second break and wins the first set with a score of 6-3.

The second set follows in the wake of the first: it is played on Carreno’s serve, who never manages to dominate an exchange against his compatriot; while in the games of Alcaraz she is the first serve to be the host. At the first break point of the set, in Carreno’s third round of service, it is the enfant prodige of Spanish tennis who wins the break, putting a stone on a dominated match.

Thus, Alcaraz becomes the fourteenth Spaniard to win the Catalan tournament: to dominate this list is obviously Rafael Nadal.
