Nick Kyrgios handed a very difficult projected path to Halle title

2022 Halle semifinalist Nick Kyrgios has learned his projected path to winning this year’s Halle title.

Kyrgios, 28, is not seeded at this year’s Halle edition as he is set to kick off his campaign by playing against Lorenzo Sonego in the first round.

In the Halle round-of-16, Kyrgios will likely get a very tough test and a meeting against No 4 seed Jannik Sinner.

In the quarterfinal, Kyrgios’ projected opponent is fifth-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime.

In the semifinal, we could see a rematch of the most tense 2022 Wimbledon match as Kyrgios could meet No 2 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.

If Kyrgios reaches the Halle final, his opponent could be top-seeded Daniil Medvedev.

Kyrgios aims for his first win in 2023

After undergoing knee surgery and missing the first half of the season, Kyrgios returned to action in Stuttgart.

In his first match of the season, Kyrgios suffered a surprise defeat as Wu Yibing beat the Australian 7-5 6-3.

“Be patient with me my fans please. Itā€™s a process to get back to where I was. I know itā€™s hard for you to see me perform like today, but I need more time and hopefully can get back to where I was,” Kyrgios tweeted after the match.

Meanwhile, Wu couldn’t hide his happiness after beating 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Kyrgios.

ā€œThe last time I played on grass was juniors back in 2017, so six years. I was really happy to play Nick in the first round. Heā€™s one of the best players on grass and he served well. He aced me [so many] times. The key for me was to stay cool, stay patient in the game and find a way. Iā€™m happy [with that result],” Wu said after beating Kyrgios.

In his Halle debut last year, Kyrgios made the semifinal before losing to Hubert Hurkacz.

It remains to be seen if Kyrgios can make another deep Halle run this year.
