Lorenzo Musetti beat Cameron Norrie in three sets in the third round, with the result of 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. Two hours of play to overcome the British in this edition of the Roland Garros tournament.
Musetti explained in the press conference: “Perhaps my best level on clay. I don’t know if I can consider it the most beautiful, but probably the last two games have been a really great performance. This is a confirmation of the great form I can express on the court. Yes, it could be the best performance of the season.”
The Italian then talked about his matches in Grand Slam tournaments: “I feel like all the balance I need to be well prepared to face these kind of players in this kind of atmosphere is completely different from normal tournaments.
What did I do to find this balance? I mean, start focusing on each point. I think today for an hour and a half I played very good tennis and had very good energy. I had a little bit of a struggle in the third set where Cameron recovered but I was probably a little more relaxed so he started getting back into the match. But I was really focused on the finale, I’m happy with how it went.”
The challenge with Carlos Alcaraz
In the second round, Lorenzo Musetti will find another world number one: it was Novak Djokovic two years ago, now it is Carlos Alcaraz.
Lorenzo told: “When I see him I see first of all a friend. He gave birth to a new generation. He is the first who won the Grand Slam title after the big three; so, I think he’s kind of an inspiration for us, for me, Holger, Jannik and whoever else is behind him.
The match in Hamburg gave me a lot of confidence. Now things are different, the position in the standings is different, but I think we’ll have fun. With any player I face and will face, I have to focus on myself, on what I have to do, on my strategy, stick to my plan, and if it doesn’t work, try to do something different. So I don’t have to think too much about who’s behind the net.”
