Jimmy Connors reveals what he finds really impressive about Iga Swiatek

American tennis legend Jimmy Connors thinks it is impressive how Iga Swiatek responds after having disappointing weeks or suffering shock defeats.

Swiatek, ranked at No 1 in the world, didn’t really have the best possible start to the 2023 season as there were some disappointing and surprising results – most notably losing in the Australian Open round-of-16.

After getting destroyed by Elena Rybakian in the Indian Wells semifinal and later withdrawing from Miami due to a rib injury, Swiatek kicked off her clay season in quite some style.

Swiatek, who won Stuttgart in her first clay tournament of the year, has also been through to the Madrid final.

Swiatek has seemingly put everything from early 2023 behind her and she is now again looking like the most dominant player in the game.

Connors praises Swiatek

“I like how she accepts her losses. If she doesn’t play well one week or loses in an event, she’s not afraid to continue to work & not get discouraged. To keep it up, come back, re-establish herself as the player she is, the best player,” Connors said on the Advantage Connors podcast, per The Tennis Letter.

This is not the first time that Connors has spoken extremely highly of Swiatek.

In February, Connors praised Swiatek’s ability to overcome adversity.

Also, Connors said he would love to one day host Swiatek on his podcast.

“It seems to me that you know there are certain players that when bad things happen, you know, they know what it takes to overcome that adversity and to figure out why that happened. I wish I could meet her. I’d love to meet her, you know love to have her on the podcast. It would be great,” Connors said in February.

In three weeks, Swiatek will kick off her French Open title defense.

It remains to be seen if Swiatek can win her fourth Grand Slam title at the French Open.
