Iga Swiatek ‘wanted really hard’ to win against Aryna Sabalenka in Stuttgart final

Iga Swiatek was pretty happy with the performance against Aryna Sabalenka as the Pole admitted she “wanted really hard” to beat the Belarusian in the Stuttgart final.

Swiatek, seeded No 1, ousted second-seeded Sabalenka 6-3 6-3 to win her second title of the season.

Also, Swiatek – who won her first Stuttgart title in 2022 – managed to win back-to-back Stuttgart titles.

“I wanted to win really, really hard, but I knew that I can’t really focus on that and just I have to keep doing my job as I did on previous matches. I’m pretty happy that I could kind of have good mentality and just focus on what I want to do tennis-wise,” Swiatek said after the final, per the WTA website.

Swiatek beat Sabalenka in their first meeting of the year

In the semifinal at the WTA Finals, Sabalenka upset Swiatek.

Five months later, Swiatek and Sabalenka met again.

In what was their first meeting of the season, Swiatek routinely beat Sabalenka and got her revenge for the loss she suffered in late 2022.

The first break of the match was seen in the eighth game, when Swiatek broke Sabalenka for a 5-3 lead.

In the ninth game, Swiatek routinely served out for the first set.

After winning the first set, Swiatek also broke Sabalenka in the first game of the second set.

Up by a set and a break, Swiatek held on toĀ her service for the remainder of the match to complete a two-set win.

After beating Sabalenka, Swiatek was all class.

ā€œCongrats to Aryna for everything. You had such an amazing season. With the Grand Slam at the start of the year, all the work youā€™ve put in has paid off. Iā€™m happy weā€™re so consistent and can play so many amazing matches together because I think fans enjoy it,” Swiatek said.
