Paula Badosa aims top-3 return after impressive start in Stuttgart

Paula Badosa is aiming to return to the top-3 in the world as the Spaniard is confident that she still has the level to be among the best players in the game.

Badosa, ranked at No 31 in the world, achieved a career-high ranking of No 2 in the world in 2022 April.

“That’s what I’m working on every day. That’s one of my goals — I want to be back on the top. I like to play big matches, I like to be in the last rounds of the tournaments. I still know I have that level. I still know I was that player. I still believe in myself, and I hope I’m back there very soon,” Badosa said, via the WTA website.

Badosa made a fast start in Stuttgart

On Tuesday, Badosa made a light work of Daria Kasatkina as the Spaniard dismantled the Russian 6-1 6-1.

After kicking off her Stuttgart campaign in a very impressive way, Badosa couldn’t hide her happiness.

ā€œIā€™m really happy about my performance today. I know it was a really tough match. She plays very well on clay so I was expecting a battle. Iā€™m really happy how I played, very aggressive. Iā€™m really happy to be back here in Stuttgart,” Badosa said.

In February, Badosa split with coach Jorge Garcia.

In Stuttgart, Badosa is accompanied by former ATP players Eduard Esteve Lobato and Pol Toledo Bague.

“I’m very happy with them, and I think it was a good start for them as well. We know each other since long time ago. They used to play. Well, now they are not playing anymore. I just told them and asked them if they could help me on my career, and they know me, as I said, from long time ago. So we have a very good relationship on and off court, and really happy to start with them this journey,” Badosa said.

Badosa plays Cristina Bucsa in the Stuttgart round-of-16.
