Sabalenka, what a start to the season
The number two in the world had a simply sensational start in 2023.
After her triumph in Adelaide, the Belarusian repeated herself in Melbourne at the Australian Open, conquering the first Grand Slam of her career with her victory in the final against Elena Rybakina. Aryna then reached the quarterfinals in Dubai, before returning as a great protagonist in the United States of America: in Indian Wells Rybakina took her revenge and defeated the 24-year-old one step away from the title. In Miami instead Sabalenka was eliminated by Cirstea in the quarterfinals.
The results allowed the girl from Minsk to get the top 3 and to be able to think about attacking the first position of the Polish Iga Swiatek. Now the same performance on hard courts will have to be confirmed on clay.
The tennis player will also be eagerly awaited at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia at the Foro Italico in Rome, where she reached the semifinal last year, where she was defeated by a simply unstoppable Swiatek.
The player has been on everyone’s lips lately, due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Several attacks have been directed at Sabalenka by Ukrainian athletes or coaches regarding the opinion of the 24-year-old on the war. The accusations have been very heavy and Aryna recently declared, sending a rather strong message: “I have never faced so much hate in the locker room. She was tough, even if it’s a little better now.”
