Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner Play Exhibition Match in Monte-Carlo Ahead of Potential Quarter-Final Clash
Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner delighted fans at a promotional event near the Larvotto Beach complex in Monte-Carlo. The two tennis stars played a mini match, showcasing their skills and humor with amusing exchanges and fantastic impersonations. Djokovic even tried to imitate Daniil Medvedev, the last player to beat him in an official tournament this year.
While the exhibition match was all in good fun, the two will soon have to face each other on the tennis court. They were drawn in the same portion of the draw and could potentially meet in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Both players received a bye in the first round and will debut directly in the second round.
Djokovic will face the winner of the match between Brandon Nakashima and Mackenzie McDonald, while Sinner will immediately cross paths with the winner of the match between Diego Schwartzman and David Goffin. The Italian player will then have to overcome Hubert Hurkacz to make it to the quarter-finals.
Last season, Djokovic did not start the clay court season in the best way and suffered a bad defeat against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in Monte-Carlo. Meanwhile, Sinner will start his clay campaign after reaching the semifinal in Indian Wells and the final in Miami.
Despite being considered one of the pillars of the future and present of tennis, Sinner faces a tough draw in Monte-Carlo, but his recent success has proven he can compete at the highest level. The tournament is sure to offer some exciting matches and potential upsets.
