David Ferrer compares Carlos Alcaraz to Gustavo Kuerten

Spanish tennis legend David Ferrer sees some similarities between Carlos Alcaraz and Gustavo Kuerten as he finds it impressive that Alcaraz is able to dictate and dominates points even when he plays against some of the world’s best players.

Alcaraz, 18, is a stunning talent as he is already a Masters champion and on the verge of breaking into the top-10 as he is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 11 in the world.

Many believe Alcaraz will become a great champion, win multiple Grand Slams and reach the world No. 1 ranking.

“He may remind me of Guga Kuerten, who always dominated the point. With this facility to generate energy without a very big effort. It’s hard to compare him, but he’s a player who has something different. He has a lot of strength in his shots and against any player, even in the top 10, he is able to dominate and it’s very difficult,” Ferrer told La Vanguardia, as quoted on We Love Tennis.

Ferrer happy to have Alcaraz in Barcelona

Ferrer, the 2013 French Open runner-up, now serves as the Barcelona tournament director.

Barcelona suffered a major blow when Rafael Nadal pulled out because of an injury.

Nadal is absent from Barcelona but Alcaraz is playing and the Spanish crowd has someone to be excited about.

Alcaraz has been through to the Barcelona round-of-16, where he plays Jaume Munar.

“I am very happy to have players like Tsitsipas who made the final with Rafa last year and was about to win Roland Garros, he is a very charismatic player,” Ferrer said. “Then we have new top 10 like Casper Ruud, who played the Masters last year and is very good on clay. From there I want to name Roberto Bautista, Pablo Carreño and of course Carlos Alcaraz, this year’s revelation, a young player with a great future and who will be a benchmark for Spanish tennis after Rafa.”
