Former world No. 1 Andy Roddick made an interesting rule proposal after Stefanos Tsitsipas was called for a coaching violation during the Monte Carlo Masters final.
The discussions regarding whether or not the coaching should be allowed have become a popular topic in recent years as some believe it’s definitely to allow coaching on the ATP Tour, while some argue one of the beauties of the game is tennis players finding solutions on their own on the court.Â
“I think tennis should be like soccer. You should carry over some penalties throughout the tournament. Coaching penalties are an obvious candidate for rollover,” Roddick tweeted.

Tsitsipas was called out by Fabio Fognini
Tsitsipas saw off Fognini 6-3 6-0 in the Monte Carlo second round and the Italian wasn’t happy as after the match he posted on his Instagram Story: “Coaching or not coaching, that’s a big problem!”
World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev exploded after losing the second set of his Australian Open semifinal versus Tsitsipas.Â
Medvedev went on a rant and claimed that Tsitsipas was being coached every point by his father.Â
After the match, Tsitsipas claimed he never listens to his father during match.
“I’m pretty sure I’m going to keep receiving coaching violations, even though I will never listen to any single thing he says. But it’s fine, they can do that if they want, if they believe it’s right,” Tsitsipas claimed. “That was also one of the reasons last year I went out publicly on one of my social media platforms and said that I think coaching should be allowed, simply because coaches do it anyways. Most of them get away with it, and they do it pretty smartly, I can tell you. Not from my dad’s side, but I’ve seen a lot of situations, I’ve seen a lot of circumstances where the coaches would get away with it, and it’s a real thing.
“By letting it be a thing, I think there is gping to be less tension and more clearance in every single aspect of it.”
