Roger Federer confirms he is intending to be guest at 2023 Laver Cup

Roger Federer has seemingly confirmed that he is intending to be a guest at this year’s Laver Cup in Vancouver.

Federer, 41, retired from pro tennis in late September at the Laver Cup.

Ever since the Laver Cup inaugural edition, John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg have been captains of Team World and Team Europe, respectively.

Federer, who created the Laver Cup with his long-time agent Tony Godsick, confirmed McEnroe and Borg would return as captains in 2023.

This year’s Laver Cup edition will be taking place from September 22-24 in Vancouver.

ā€œBjorn and John have been amazing for the Laver Cup. They are great team leaders, mentors, and ambassadors for the event. They fight hard but with huge respect for one another and the sport we all love. The Laver Cup could not have chosen better for our inaugural captains and Iā€™m really looking forward to being in Vancouver in September to watch them and their teams go at it once again,” Federer said in a statement, per the Laver Cup website.

Federer hasn’t made any appearances as a guest since retiring

In October, Federer was invited to be a guest at an ATP 500 event in Basel.

The Basel organizers wanted to create a special farewell for Federer but the Swiss tennis icon politely declined their offer.

Then, Tennis Australia badly wanted to have Federer as their guest at this past Australian Open.

Again, Federer turned down the offer.

Federer, a former 20-time Grand Slam champion, is seemingly not ready yet to start visiting tournaments as a guest.

However, that is expected to change very soon.

In recent weeks, there have been strong reports suggesting that Federer will be a part of the BBC’s 2023 Wimbledon coverage.

But for now, one thing is for sure – Federer will be visiting the Laver Cup as a guest in late September.
