Novak Djokovic requests special permission to enter US for Indian Wells, Miami

Novak Djokovic has applied to be granted a special permission to enter the United States for the upcoming Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami, per his brother Djordje.

As per the current United States vaccine laws, unvaccinated foreigners cannot enter the country.

“Unfortunately, it is something that is out of our hands. Novak needs to get a special permission to enter, considering that the USA still doesn’t let unvaccinated foreigners into the country, which is unbelievable, considering that we have seen big sporting manifestations with unvaccinated athletes throughout the world,” Djordje Djokovic told Tanjug, as revealed on Tennis Majors.

Djokovic delivered all the documentation to the authorities and now he is hoping for positive news from the United States.

“There are a few days left until the decision, we are hoping for a positive outcome,” Djordje Djokovic added.

The Indian Wells organizers want Djokovic to play

Tommy Haas, a former world No 2, is currently the tournament director in Indian Wells.

Just a few days ago, Haas publicly said he would absolutely love to see Djokovic at his tournament.

“It would be nice to see if we could maybe lift those (restrictions) a little earlier and have him come to play Indian Wells and Miami. I think he wants to play, so we should give him the chance. Hopefully, we can have him there. I mean, it would be a disgrace in my eyes if he wasn’t coming to these events, or not allowed to come,” Haas said.

Djokovic, who made his Indian Wells debut in 2006, is a five-time champion at the tournament.

In Miami, Djokovic also debuted in 2006 but there he has six titles.

Throughout his career, Djokovic has enjoyed lots of success in Indian Wells and Miami.

At the start of the 2023 season, Djokovic is still undefeated.

It remains to be seen if Djokovic will be allowed to play Indian Wells and Miami in March.
