Marc Rosset weighs in on Belinda Bencic’s chances of winning Grand Slam

Former Swiss tennis star Marc Rosset thinks Belinda Bencic has the talent and potential to win a Grand Slam but adds it’s now just the matter of the 25-year-old going out and performing at a high level for two weeks.Ā

Bencic, a former world No. 4, put up a great run at the Tokyo Olympics last year to win her first gold medal.Ā

Bencic couldn’t hide her happiness after winning the Olympics as multiple times she spoke about how big of a win it was.Ā

By winning the Tokyo Olympics, Bencic proved that she is capable of winning a major event.Ā

Now, Swiss fans are hoping the Olympics win gives Bencic wings and she makes a Grand Slam breakthrough.Ā

“We have to wait and see, because every year we say to ourselves that she has the ability to win a Grand Slam tournament… It is clear that she has the talent and the potential to do so. It is indisputable. But you can say and write what you want, it’s on the court that things have to happen. Take the last US Open: In the quarter-finals against Emma Raducanu, Belinda appeared hyper-nervous and, something you often see when she’s a little off guard, she didn’t have a plan B in her game,” Rosset told rts.ch.

Bencic has only one Grand Slam semifinalĀ

Bencic reached her maiden and lone Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open in 2019, before losing to Bianca Andreescu.

Outside the US Open, Bencic twice reached the Wimbledon round-of-16 and once the second week at the Australian Open.Ā

The French Open is the Grand Slam where Bencic has had least success as she has never made it past the third round at the tournament.Ā

A week ago, Bencic lifted her first clay title in Charleston.Ā

Bencic made a positive start to her clay season but still it’s hard to name her as a French Open favorite after just one good clay result.Ā
