Jannik Sinner: “I am worried about the war in Ukraine”

Jannik Sinner has become the protagonist of a path that looks to the long distance, based on the growth of his tennis and his mentality, accumulating experience in prestigious tournaments to improve himself, which produced his first successes in 2021, with 4 ATP titles, the ATP Finals played and the top 10 conquered.

The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz was inspired by this performance, but he was able to do much better: already mature with the game, with very few weaknesses, the talented 18-year-old achieved immediate results in the ATP circuit and took advantage of the favorable (and very negative) moment of the best) to compete in an impressive start to 2022, the result of the targeted work carried out during the break.

The Italian was unlucky in these first months of the year and has not yet expressed his best tennis in the competitions he has played. The 20-year-old, however, has always shown that he can win races, while not playing to the best of his ability, as long as there are no injuries in the middle of the journey (examples Indian Wells and Miami).

Fundamental upgrade, immediately put into practice, which has become a certainty in the new version of Sinner. A not inconsiderable fact also in the second round with Ruusuvuori: the Italian won the first set 7-5 by making double the mistakes of the opponent and, overall, winning one point less than the Finn (41-40).

Interviewed by Riccardo Crivelli of Gazzetta dello Sport, Jannik expressed himself on the rivalry with Alcaraz, according to the Spaniard, the rivalry of the next decade: “We cannot read the future, there are also many other very strong players.cCertainly phenomena like him you notice at first sight. It’s nice that someone like him has arrived on the circuit, new protagonists give great sensations.”

On the war in Ukraine: “I’m worried, like everyone else. Sometimes things happen that make us understand that there is also pain and evil. I see that Russians and Ukrainians respect each other and are friends on the Tour. Perhaps we should start from here. I love tennis, I invested all of myself to try to make it my job. I like to play.”
