Novak Djokovic has underlined that he is not putting any pressure or expectations on his son to pursue a professional tennis career.
Stefan Djokovic, 8, has fallen in love with tennis and he seems to be hoping to follow in the footsteps of his father and one day become a pro tennis player.
Djokovic, a 21-time Grand Slam champion, suggests he will support his son if he decides to pursue a pro tennis career but for now he feels it’s too early for the media to ask about him about the possibility of his son being a pro one day.
“Yes, of course. I said that for me it’s the greatest source of motivation to see him when he watches me in a tournament or when he asks me to play, it’s a very special feeling that I have never had in my life. So it’s also interesting to feel or to hear what he says. When he’s watching a match, it’s very special. But I don’t put him under pressure. I don’t put expectations on him. For me it’s important for him to see tennis as a game, a sport that can help him develop physically, mentally, etc. But it’s too early to talk about his career and anything else. It’s too early. So please don’t ask questions about his career. He’s only 8 years old. So it’s too early,” Djokovic said, per Sportskeeda.
Djokovic and his son were victorious on the same day
In May, Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Rome Masters final.
On the same day, Stefan won his first tournament.
“My son won the tournament today. A ‘sunshine double’ today. It’s a very small club tournament. It was nice to see him playing. The first official tournament or match always stays in your memory very fondly. I really wanted him to enjoy it on the court,” Djokovic said after winning Rome.
